Kitchen with wooden island

Why We Love It

This Greenville, South Carolina, kitchen, designed by architect and decorator Mark Maresca and featured in Southern Living magazine, makes use of a strong aqua, currently high on my list of fabulous colors. If you're considering a bold color, look to your closet for inspiration. The colors you gravitate toward in your clothes are usually the ones you'll enjoy living with in your rooms.

What Makes It Work

This kitchen features some of my other favorite design elements, such as a wall of windows unobstructed by upper cabinets, an island in a contrasting finish, and a patterned floor.

Steal This Idea

To lessen the risk of eventually tiring of a color, paint only the cabinets, as the designer and homeowner have done here. That way, color changes down the road are relatively easy.
