6 Cool Blue Bedroom Retreats

Serene Escape

Designer Anne Coyle created this master bedroom to be a respite from everyday life. To keep it simple, she kept all of the bed linens white; painted the walls a calm, cool blue; and adorned the windows with simple Roman shades.

The extra-tall upholstered headboard and pair of floral-printed armchairs lend themselves to reading and relaxing. The color palette was taken from the armchair fabric and is repeated on throw pillows.

Tall Order

A quiet palette of whites and blues allows the antiques to take center stage in this bedroom. Tactile fabrics such as velvets and silks add a luxurious element of texture. The ceiling height is accentuated by an extra-tall headboard and mirrors that flank the bed.

Complementary Palette

Whites and khakis on the bed and windows keep the room from looking busy, while a faux zebra print on a nearby chair adds just the right amount of energy.

The soft blue walls of this bedroom are a departure from the rest of this home’s neutral palette. “I love this shade because it’s energetic but still calming and peaceful to live with,” says homeowner Courtney Tilinski.

Dose of Comfort

Dominated by light blue and celadon and tiers of fabric, this master bedroom is decidedly romantic. A dreamy banquette hides behind curtains in a hand-printed fabric resembling tea-stained damask and creates the effect of a separate sanctum within the bedroom. It is an ideal spot for reading or having morning coffee.

Bold Hue

Custom-colored, hand-blocked fabric in a bold turquoise wraps this bedroom in style and comfort. The classic blue-and-brown palette is inspired by the late British tastemaker David Hicks. Though the room is filled with patterns and textures, their complementary tones create order.

Cool and Calm

A striated glaze of robin’s-egg blue layered with pale green gives dimension to the grand proportions of this bedroom, designed by Mary Louise Sinclair. White bed linens give the room a crisp, clean appearance.
