Shutter Cabinet
Thomas J. Story
This tall cabinet adds storage and a casual country look to any room. The surprise is that it's so easy to make: You start with an unfinished bookcase--whatever size suits your purpose--and add a pair of ready-made louvered shutters. For this 7-foot-tall cabinet, 18-by-80 7/8-inch shutters were used. Shutters typically come in two styles: traditional, with 1 1/4-inch slats, and plantation, with 2 1/4-inch slats. The latter were selected because their scale fit this large unit.

Integrated Cabinets
These homeowners designed this kitchen using the concept of integrated space. Visually the kitchen, rimmed with a boomerang-curved bar, is a seamless extension of the living and dining rooms. Can't spot the refrigerator? That's the idea. Panels of maple with insets of bird's-eye maple disguise the appliance. - Dream Time
