Outdoor Nook for Two
A filigreed gazebo turns this side yard in Davis, California, into an enchanting setting for alfresco dining. The airy, 11-foot-tall,
rusted-iron structure was found at a local nursery for less than $1,000, a candle chandelier and a pair of tall candle stands
were added for nighttime ambience. To make an intriguing "rug," the landscape designer glued 12-inch mosaic marble tiles to
cast concrete squares, filling spaces between them with decomposed granite. Design: Michael Glassman & Associates, Sacramento (www.michaelglassman.com or 916/736-2222) » see room

Outdoor Paradise
Who says the back porch has to be attached to the house? One Memphis family enjoys theirs, which is nestled in the heart of the back yard. Although the structure was part of the property when the family bought the home several years ago, its size and scale seem ideal for today. The screened porch section measures 8 x 12 feet; exposed beams on the inside give it an open feel. To the left, an enclosed room that's used for storing outdoor equipment takes up another eight feet. - Integrated Cabinets
