Salado View Idea House: Office

With children come the homework, computer research, and art projects that often fill the typical school year. So instead of relying on the breakfast table as a workspace, why not devote a separate area to these activities? This Southern Living Idea House features just such a space, located between the kitchen and mudroom. Referred to as the office, this room not only serves as the central craft and study area, but it also houses a much-needed butler's pantry. Cabinets, some with glass fronts, match those found in the kitchen.

Who says the back porch has to be attached to the house? One Memphis family enjoys theirs, which is nestled in the heart of the back yard. Although the structure was part of the property when the family bought the home several years ago, its size and scale seem ideal for today. The screened porch section measures 8 x 12 feet; exposed beams on the inside give it an open feel. To the left, an enclosed room that's used for storing outdoor equipment takes up another eight feet. - Integrated Cabinets
