Pivotal Addition
Photo: Lisa Romerein
This couple loved the idea of being able to open an entire wall of their home to the outside. So designer Joshua Coggenshall created a wall for the couple's bedroom addition that tilts upward, like a garage door. A system of pulleys, rope, and cleats allows the wall to be raised easily, extending the living space out onto the deck. The hardware was purchased from a boat supply store. When down, the wall adds appeal to the room. The translucent panels are made of an industrial greenhouse material.

Integrated Cabinets
These homeowners designed this kitchen using the concept of integrated space. Visually the kitchen, rimmed with a boomerang-curved bar, is a seamless extension of the living and dining rooms. Can't spot the refrigerator? That's the idea. Panels of maple with insets of bird's-eye maple disguise the appliance. - Dream Time
