Fixed panels can make a decorative statement and be more cost-effective than traditional draperies. Layering several types of treatments together can create a great look. Here, designer Cindy Zelazny Rodenhaver used side panels, a fabric-covered cornice, and a sheer to diffuse light and add privacy. Decoratively it's effective because she blended three coordinating fabrics--regal damask for the cornice, checked silk for the panels, and a sheer. This layered look is a great way to incorporate a small amount of expensive fabric, perhaps on the cornice, along with an affordable one where more yardage is required.
