Finger Paint Grows Up

Covering a large space in a very visible area such as this one (situated in the dining room just to the right of the foyer) is a dilemma many homeowners face. This couple in Hot Springs, Arkansas, found a playful solution. They commissioned three artists to paint this contemporary piece--their children, Stephen, Matthew, and Ellie. The kids' mom and a local artist who specializes in abstract expressionism chose supplies, stretched a canvas to the desired size, and mixed paint colors that would accentuate the room's decor.

Outdoor Paradise
Who says the back porch has to be attached to the house? One Memphis family enjoys theirs, which is nestled in the heart of the back yard. Although the structure was part of the property when the family bought the home several years ago, its size and scale seem ideal for today. The screened porch section measures 8 x 12 feet; exposed beams on the inside give it an open feel. To the left, an enclosed room that's used for storing outdoor equipment takes up another eight feet. - Integrated Cabinets
