Mixing Decades
The kitchen in this 1940s Los Angeles bungalow was expanded to become a modern hangout space. A soft pale blue that the homeowner chose as the main accent color appears in cabinetry, a plastic laminate counter, and the wall behind a new built-in desk. The island is made of Ikea cabinets set into a frame of finply, a high-grade plywood. A refurbished 1953 O’Keefe & Merritt gas range is paired with a custom-designed stainless steel hood with a mirror finish.

Outdoor Paradise
Who says the back porch has to be attached to the house? One Memphis family enjoys theirs, which is nestled in the heart of the back yard. Although the structure was part of the property when the family bought the home several years ago, its size and scale seem ideal for today. The screened porch section measures 8 x 12 feet; exposed beams on the inside give it an open feel. To the left, an enclosed room that's used for storing outdoor equipment takes up another eight feet. - Integrated Cabinets
