Family's weekend retreat
This weekend family home, in rural Marin County, California, is a relaxing haven for its occupants. The key spaces for eating,
playing, and resting all open to the outdoors. An example: Overhead garage doors open the living porch to the patio. The starting
point for the design was an L-shaped courtyard plan incorporating straw-bale construction. Sets of French doors open the kitchen
to the central dining patio. The breakfast area includes a built-in window seat that can double as a daybed, providing a perfect
spot for a good read and an impromptu nap. » see room

Outdoor Paradise
Who says the back porch has to be attached to the house? One Memphis family enjoys theirs, which is nestled in the heart of the back yard. Although the structure was part of the property when the family bought the home several years ago, its size and scale seem ideal for today. The screened porch section measures 8 x 12 feet; exposed beams on the inside give it an open feel. To the left, an enclosed room that's used for storing outdoor equipment takes up another eight feet. - Integrated Cabinets
