A French Foyer
Photo: Van Chaplin
"We looked for months before finding the perfect set at a nearby antiques shop called Metropolitan Artifacts," says this homeowner about the front doors. "They were beautiful, antique French townhouse doors dating from the late 1800s." After the portals were cleaned and restored, the homeowners had clear-glass, operable windows set in the openings so that the intricate ironwork could be seen both inside the foyer and on the porch. Architect Hoyte Johnson also dropped the high cathedral ceiling to a flat, lower pane and replaced a 1970s globe light with a more appealing lantern fixture.
