Shedding the Outside

This room is usually the first stop in the home. A mudroom provides a small pit-stop for the kids and adults alike to shed their outside clothes and bags before all other indoor activities begin. Site-built open-front lockers provide space for those ever-bulky book bags, boots and coats, as well as a few gardening supplies. Any home with an empty wall near a back door could essentially have a mudroom with this built-in.

Who says the back porch has to be attached to the house? One Memphis family enjoys theirs, which is nestled in the heart of the back yard. Although the structure was part of the property when the family bought the home several years ago, its size and scale seem ideal for today. The screened porch section measures 8 x 12 feet; exposed beams on the inside give it an open feel. To the left, an enclosed room that's used for storing outdoor equipment takes up another eight feet. - Integrated Cabinets
