Above it All
An all-American palette fills the third-floor sitting room. The painted wood floors put a playful spin on traditional boat decking, while the compass rose provides a dramatic anchor for the spiral staircase ascending to the crow’s nest. The interior decorator chose a woven area rug for the sitting room because “it has a rope-like weave with nautical appeal.”

Outdoor Paradise
Who says the back porch has to be attached to the house? One Memphis family enjoys theirs, which is nestled in the heart of the back yard. Although the structure was part of the property when the family bought the home several years ago, its size and scale seem ideal for today. The screened porch section measures 8 x 12 feet; exposed beams on the inside give it an open feel. To the left, an enclosed room that's used for storing outdoor equipment takes up another eight feet. - Integrated Cabinets
