How-To: Halloween Beanbag Toss and More

Any party is more fun with games and a kids' Halloween party is no exception. If you like corn hold as a tailgating favorite game, then you will love this pumpkin-shaped beanbag toss as your child's party. Here's what you need to create your own Halloween beanbag toss.

• Plywood board
• Pencil
• Jigsaw tool
• Drill
• Paint
• Detail brushes
• Paintbrushes
• Sandpaper
• Chain
• 12 handheld beanbags

Outline Pumpkin

Step 1: Using 1/4-inch or 1/2-inch plywood, draw desired shape. Use a pushpin and a short length of string to guide your pencil to outline an even circle.

Fill In Face Shapes

Step 2: Give your pumpkin a face by outlining the shape of the pumpkin's eyes and mouth with a pencil.

Note: Make sure to draw the edges of the openings large enough for a beanbag to easily pass through, depending on the distance of the thrower.

Cut It Out

Step 3: Using a power drill, drill holes in the corners and around the edges to make them easier to cut. Using a jigsaw, cut out the outlines of the eyes and mouth.

Sand It Down

Step 4: Use a coarse sandpaper block and sand around all of the edges to prevent any splinters or cuts from rough edges.

Stabilize With A Stand

Step 5: To keep the pumpkin stable, attach a small piece of wood to the back for the stand. Use a small hinge to fasten the board onto the back of the pumpkin. Use a short piece of chain with small hooks to link the base of the pumpkin to the base of the stand which will stabilize the wood.

Paint Coats

Step 6: Add a coat of paint primer on the wood to give the pumpkin an even and consistent layer of paint on the surface. Paint the entire surface and edges of the pumpkin with the orange paint first. Once you have a consistent coating, trim the edges of the eyes, nose, mouth, and pumpkin top with black paint. Remember not to move your pumpkin until the paint is completely dry.

Time To Toss

If you're feeling extra crafty, make the beanbags for tossing.

Simply sew Halloween fabric (from the side that will be on the inside) into the desired shape, turn inside out, fill with dry beans, and sew the remaining hole.

Candy Corn Alternative

To make this candy corn cutout: Attach two wooden stakes to the back of the candy corn cutout, and secure the stakes with the appropriate size wood screws. Hammer stakes into the ground to display the cutout in your front yard.
