Why it’s green: It is made with a unique blend of biodegradable, coconut-based detergents and is high-grade, completely soluble, Green River washing soda.

What we thought: “This detergent promised to clean everything (grease, blood, and red clay), including the clear residue left by other cleaners. At first, I was skeptical that the small amount (1/8 of a cup or 3½ capfuls) could really clean a whole load of clothes, but I was proved wrong. The clothes came out feeling remarkably clean and smelling great. The bag is much smaller and a bit more expensive than other detergents, but since such a small amount is required to clean a load, it lasts a long time.”
