Like the soft crash of ocean waves, a sense of calm washes over visitors to Liz Orgera’s blog, Shorely Chic. Her style is coastal, simple, and comfortable—from the beautifully beachy decor in her Fairfield County, Connecticut apartment (It’s amazing what she’s done with a small, rented space. Really. Check it out here) to her online Etsy boutique where she sells seashell adorned mirrors, beach chic Ikat throw pillows, and handmade seersucker French memo boards (like the one we used to make this inspiration board. Buy it here). In just her mid-twenties, Liz has started a business, a brand, and a blog. We can’t wait to see what the next decade brings.
MyHomeIdeas (MHI): In three words or less, how would you describe your decorating style?
Liz Orgera (LO): Beachy, casual, chic.
Used at a friend’s wedding, these simple starfish seating cards exemplify Liz’s self-described design style. See more from this beautiful beach wedding here.
MHI: What is your favorite paint color?
LO: White Heron by Benjamin Moore. Right now I’m obsessing over white walls!
Some bloggers love white, others loathe it. Liz is of the former category. This post on whitewashed furniture, and this one on a stunning Fire Island beach cottageshow us how the absence of color can be fresh, clean, and chic.
MHI: Where is your favorite place to shop for home decor finds?
LO: The beach for natural shells, thrift shops, and flea markets.
Shells aren’t just decorative accents for Liz—they are the ingredients for her Shorely Chic e-shop creations, like these pieces here that she sold as part of her town’s sidewalk sale this summer. Read more about it and see what else she sold here.
MHI: Who is your favorite interior designer?
LO: Thomas Scheerer and Rachel Ashwell of Shabby Chic.
Since she started her blog more than a year, Liz has professed her adoration for designer Rachel Ashwell and her signature style. See why Mrs. Shabby Chic inspires Ms. Shorely Chic here.
MHI: What sounds fill your house?
LO: Jack Johnson, Etta James, Jackson Browne, and the Zac Brown Band. I love music and hate the sound of TV.
On a trip to Naples, Florida, Liz snapped this beautiful picture of a gulf sunset. Can you think of a place more befitting of her favorite artists? Read about her weekend getaway to Florida’s gulf coast here, and don’t miss the live sand dollars!
MHI: What is your favorite blog, besides your own?
LO: Simpledaisy.blogspot.com because Heather is the most creative, energetic, and cheerful person I have met in blog land and she inspires me every time I land on her page.
Many bloggers, like Liz, visited the Nate Berkus show, with some mixed reviews. Read about Liz’s day with Nate and her fellow bloggers here.
MHI: What room in your house is your favorite?
LO: My living room with white slip-covered couches, my beginnings of an art collection, and many of my creations waiting to be sold on display.
One of Liz’s creations waiting to be sold are these Ikat throw pillows in her lovely living room. Take a look at her living room and more of her wares here.
MHI: What is the one thing in your house you cannot live without?
LO: Sadly, my BlackBerry. I’m always on the go and staying in touch is essential to the growth of my business.
And what a growing business it is! Check out this postfrom one of Liz’s first sales events. We love how she took photos of her products in their natural element—on the beach!
MHI: What house chore do you despise?
LO: Mopping the kitchen floor!
As if this beautiful balcony wasn’t reason enough to enjoy every meal outdoors, you don’t have to clean any floors post-dinner. Read about Liz’s cute balcony and her inspiration for it here.
MHI: If you had an unlimited budget, what would you do with it?
LO: I would open a Shorely Chic boutique on the beach, right around the corner from my beach bungalow.
While it’s not necessarily what we would call a “bungalow,” it certainly is a dream home. In fact, it’s the Hampton’s home from “Something’s Gotta Give,” one of Liz’s favorites. See more of this downright dreamy home in this post here.
MHI: If you could live in any city in the world, where would it be?
LO: I would live in Manhattan Beach, California.
