The Young House Love bloggers, John and Sherry Petersik, first started their blog to show the slow but steady improvements they made to their first home, a brick ranch in Richmond, VA. SInce then, they have gotten married (in their backyard!), had a baby and helped countless readers with their own design dilemas.
John and Sherry got their start in home renovation with their own ranch house. When they moved in everything needed work -- from the front yard to the basement and every room in between. They managed to pull off some amazing transformations. Our favorite, jaw-dropping room makeover? The dark, linoleum covered den. They managed to turn it into a warm and inviting spot to relax.
After living in their house for a year and fixing it up along the way, John and Sherry decided to take on the ultimate DIY project: a wedding in their backyard. With a little help from their friends and some savvy, cost-cutting planning they managed to pull the whole thing off and spent less than $4,000.
John and Sherry have redone the kitchen in their home not once, but twice. The first makeover was more of an update; they painted the kitchen cabinets, added new hardware and vinyl tile, and put in new appliances. See the before and after pictures of the first kitchen update.
Then, after four months without a working kitchen, they showed their brand new, completely gutted kitchen to the world. The transformation is amazing -- they added a new wall, changed the layout, installed new cabinets and countertops, and gained so much storage space. John and Sherry love their new kitchen and we do too! See the amazing pictures of the complete kitchen remodel.
Inevitably, when you put together a house as cool as John and Sherry's, you are going to get tons of questions about where to find every item. The Young House Love team was smart enough to put together a room-by-room resource list so that readers could easily find their favorites.
Making the decision to paint your brick fireplaces can be a bit scary for most people. But not John and Sherry! One of the first things they did when they moved into their house was to paint the fireplace in their living room and in their den. The results are amazing.

The Young House Love house sits on a really cool lot which allows John and Sherry tons of outdoor space to fix up and enjoy. Since moving in they have redone their front yard, back yard, driveway, and patio to make the most of the amazing piece of land that their house sits on.
John and Sherry are quick to admit that they are self-taught home renovators. They have done almost everything in their house by themselves, learning along the way. In the process, they have compiled a huge how-to library. Here are some of our favorite Young House Love how-tos.
The latest home improvement John and Sherry have tackled is a brand new baby girl, Clara. They had their blog audience hooked from the day that they announced their beloved puppy Burger was going to be a big brother, to the day when they told everyone to buy pink, to their nursery reveal.
Young House Love has inspired many home decorators to take on their own design projects. John and Sherry feature many of these -- from DIY headboards to entire room overhauls -- in their Reader Redesign section.
John and Sherry love to share the knowledge that they have learned from renovating and decorating their home with their readers. So they've created a little side business where they invite readers to send in their design dilemmas and they help solve the problems with product and layout suggestions.
